The four technocrat ministers will continue their duties until the official order on their resignation is issued in line with a directive from the prime minister.
On Tuesday, Religious Affairs Minister Matior Rahman, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Science and Technology Minister Yeafesh Osman and Telecoms and IT Minister Mustafa Jabbar stepped down.
Their resignations followed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s instructions during the weekly Cabinet meeting earlier in the day.
On Wednesday, the four ministers went to meet Hasina at her residence, when she asked them to continue with the official responsibilities, according to people familiar with the matter.
None of the technocrat ministers went to their offices, said officials.
Religious affairs ministry spokesperson Anwar Hossain told Bangla Tribune, “Sir did not come to the office, but cleared some important files from his residence.”
Telecoms Minister Mustafa Jabbar instructed his staff to send over important matters to his home, said the ministry’s spokesperson Shafayat Hossain.
An official of science and technology minister said that Yeafesh Osman has asked his staff to obtain clearances for him to enter the Secretariat.
“He has resigned from the Cabinet, but may need to come to the Secretariat for official purposes. So he asked to get a clearance for him,” the official told Bangla Tribune, on condition of anonymity.
Nurul Islam BSc also cleared files of expatriate welfare ministry from his Eskaton home on Wednesday, according to family members.
Cabinet Division officials said that they were yet to receive the resignations of the four ministers and that an official order will be issued following clearance from the prime minister and the president.
