Election Commission will implement the High Court’s directive on BNP’s amended organogram. As a result, EC will not accept the amended organogram with correction to clause 7. A decision regarding this was taken on Sunday and EC has already prepared a draft letter to send to BNP.
EC secretary, Helaluddin Ahmed, told Bangla Tribune: “we have received a copy of the High Court order and will follow accordingly.”
BNP scrapped the clause which stated that a person who is bankrupt, mentally unstable and given prison sentence will not be eligible to become a member of the committee.
Since the party chairperson was sent to prison, the correction was carried out at the end of January this year and submitted to EC.
EC feels that if the clause 7 is not revoked then Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman will not be able to lead BNP.
On Oct 31 last, a bench comprising justices Md Ashfaqul Islam and Mohamamd Ali ordered the EC not to accept the amended organogram.
