The Election Commission (EC) has finalised the regulations for using electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming general election.
EC Joint Secretary Abul Kashem told Bangla Tribune that the green light came from the Commission’s meeting during Saturday and Sunday.
On Wednesday (Oct 31), President Md Abdul Hamid assented to the Representation of the People Order (Amendment) Bill 2018 incorporating a provision for the use of electronic voting machines besides paper ballots in general elections amid protests from most political parties for promulgation of the amended RPO in an ordinance.
Earlier on Oct 29, the Cabinet approved the draft amendments in its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office.
