The Election Commission will finalise the schedule for the upcoming general election during its meeting on Nov 4, says Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
His remarks came after the election commissioners met President M Abdul Hamid on Thursday (Nov 1) at the Bangabhaban.
Huda, however, said their discussion with the president did not include the schedule, but the preparations for upcoming general elections.
“We briefed the president over the measures and arrangements taken for the election. The schedule or the date of voting was not discussed,” he told the media.
Responding to a query, the CEC said they were confident that all the political parties will contest the election.
Asked whether the EC is considering any changes in its plans for the schedule amid the political talks, he said, “We are observing the dialogue, but any decision on the schedule is yet to be made. It can’t be said now whether the voting will take place in December or January.”
On the High Court’s instruction on not accepting the BNP’s amended charter, Huda said, “We have received the court’s order as well as the copy of the petition. There’s still time for that. The commission will take a decision after discussions.”
