Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addresses the inaugural of 297 projects and laying the foundation stones of 24 other schemes in 56 districts across Bangladesh through video conferencing from the Ganabhaban on Thursday (Nov 1). PIDThe county will witness more development if the Awami League is once again elected to office, says party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Bangladesh will be further developed if Awami League comes to power again. More development will take place in the country Insha-Allah (god willing),” she said on Thursday.
Her remarks came while addressing the inaugural of 297 projects and laying the foundation stones of 24 other schemes in 56 districts across Bangladesh through video conferencing from the Ganabhaban, reports BSS.
Hasina reiterated her pledge to build a developed Bangladesh by freeing the society from terrorism, militancy and drugs.
Asking authorities to step up their drives against drugs, she said the ongoing crackdown on narcotics will continue. “We will present a healthy and beautiful life to the people of Bangladesh and we will build a developed country by freeing the society from terrorism, militancy and drugs.”
During the Ganabhaban event, Hasina also announced a bandit and pirate-free Sundarbans with the surrendering of 54 bandits and pirates in the area.
“The Sundarbans was once gripped by bandits. But with the surrendering of the robbers and pirates, I can declare the world’s largest mangrove forest free of those.”
She also announced Tk 100,000 cash assistance for the bandits who surrendered on Thursday in Bagerhat to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan.
The PM instructed the home minister to take measures to drop all charges, except murder, against those who gave themselves in. “We want them to come to the normal life and live peacefully with their families.”
Seeking cooperation from the people to complete the ongoing projects speedily, Hasina said that these schemes will create jobs. “The people of the country would be able to live with dignity keeping pace with the modern world and the young and new generations will get a better and beautiful life with the completion of the projects.”
Housing is a very important matter for the people, the prime minister said, adding her government has planned to construct flats for low and middle-income people as well as slum-dwellers.
“As many as 8,400 flats will be built with the cooperation of Malaysia,” she said.
She asked the flat owners to keep their residences neat and clean and said the government has ensured all facilities like school, college, market and laundry for them.
While inaugurating a monument in memory of the carnage that took place in Chattogram on Jan 24 1988, Hasina expressed dissatisfaction as the trial for the killings are yet to finish.
Recalling the brutal incident, she said the trial of the carnage is yet to be finished and the person who filed the case has already died.
She said the then-military dictator General Ershad did not take any action against the police officer responsible. “Rather he was promoted by Begum Khaleda Zia when the BNP came to power,” she added.
