Each district of the country is set to get at least one Children Tribunal with provisions for more in ‘The Children (Amendment) Act, 2018', passed in Parliament on Monday.
The bill was passed by voice vote after Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon moved the Bill before the house.
The proposed amendment to the law aims to widen its avenue so that the trial processes are expedited.
According to the draft law, the existing Women & Children Repression Prevention tribunals will act as Children Tribunals which will hold trial of offences committed by children.
If a crime is committed by adults and children then police have to submit separate their investigation reports for the children, the new law stipulates.
