Bangladesh has achieved a lot in the last ten years, including graduating to developing nation from a least developed one, and now should maintain the pace of development, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Over the last ten years we at least could achieve the honour for the nation and we would work together to maintain it,” she said on Saturday.
Her remarks came while addressing a grand rally of the Lions and Leos at her official residence the Ganabhaban, reports BSS.
“Lions and Leos are playing a praiseworthy role to stand beside the humanity and nothing can be considered more illustrious than their serving the people,” said Hasina.
The prime minister said she has dedicated her life to the cause of the people and she has no expectation except building Bangladesh as a happy and prosperous country as dreamt by the Bangabandhu. The government is making constant efforts with a vision to materialize the dream, she said seeking support from the Lions and Leos to take the country forward.
“Only few years ago, Bangladesh was known as a land stricken by hunger, poverty and natural calamities. But now it’s considered as a role model for development,” she said.
Hasina said a nation that attained its independence through the supreme sacrifice of millions should not fall behind, reports UNB.
"We were in the back seat for one reason — the evil force that had grabbed power illegally after killing the Father of the Nation, put the anti-liberation force in power and awarded the killers of Bangabandhu. When they were in power, they never wanted the country to be developed. They didn’t have that desire," the news agency quoted the PM saying.Hasina said Bangladesh will celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 2020 and golden jubilee of the Independence in 2021 as poverty and hunger free country. And by 2041, Bangladesh would be a prosperous country in South Asia, reported BSS.
The government has prepared the Delta Plan-2100 to take an integrated approach and consistent long-term development plan, Hasina said hoping that the next generation would implement the plan to take the country forward.
