Khaleda Zia (File Photo)Court has asked Khaleda Zia’s lawyers to explain why her bail should not be revoked in the Zia Trust graft case.
An order has also been issued to present high court’s order by Oct 7, on the appeal by Khaleda Zia’s lawyers asking for a stay on the case.
In failure to do so, the court will give an order on the verdict date based over the appeal by state lawyers, said Md Akhtaruzzaman, judge of the special court established within the old central jail.
The judge also cancelled the bail appeal of Monirul Islam Khan, also convicted in the trust case, and sent him to jail.
Of the four convicted, Khaleda Zia, Ziaul Islam Munna and Monirul Islam Khan are currently in prison while another convict, Arif Chowdhury, is a fugitive.
During the court proceedings, Khaleda Zia’s lawyers, Sanaullah, said: “why is there such a hurry to conclude the case; we have gone to high court; you have to give us time.”
At that time, lawyers for the state, Kajal, said: “Khaleda Zia is misinterpreting the law; if she respected of the law then she would have come to court.”
In that case, extending the bail could have been considered, he added.
