Minister meets with editor’s council on Sunday

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has met with the editors' council leaders regarding the Digital Security Act (DSA) on Sunday (Sept 30) at 12pm.
Law Minister Anisul Huq, Telecoms and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar and Information Affairs Adviser to the PM Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury were present during the meeting which took place at the secretariat.
After passing the Digital Security Act in parliament ignoring concerns that it might muzzle press freedom, the Information Minister wrote to the Editors’ Council, Bangladesh Federal Journalists’ Union (BFUK), Dhaka Journalist’s Union (DUJ) and Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Wednesay (Sept 26) inviting them for a meeting on Sept 30.
The letter said that amid concerns over the new law by journalists, the meeting to resolve the issue was imperative.
Editor of The Daily Star, Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Prothom Alo, Matiur Rahman and many other leaders of the editor’s council was present at the meeting.
The minister is scheduled to sit with the journalist bodies at 3am on Sunday.
