Wages for the workers in the state-run factories have been doubled as the parliament has the bill for ‘Wage Scale and Allowances for Workers in State-Owned Industries’.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu presented the bill before the house on Wednesday which was passed by voice vote.
According to the new wage structure, minimum wage for workers of state-run factories employees will be Tk 8300 while the maximum wage to be Tk 11,200 which were respectively Tk 4,150 and Tk 5,600 until now.
The new wage structure will be effective retrospectively from Jul 1, 2015 and bonuses from Jul 1, 2016.
Workers in the state-owned factories will get bonuses for Bengal New Year as well.
The National Wage and Productivity Commission headed by former Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan was formed in 2015 to formulate a new wage structures aimed at bringing it in line with the wage for public sector workers.
The commission submitted its recommendations to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Jul 4, 2018.
Previously wage for state-run factory workers were increased by nearly 70 percent in 2010.
