Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government is emphasising on importing electricity from neighbouring countries along with increasing the production at home.
She made the remark on Thursday while inaugurating ‘the Power and Energy Week 2018’ at Bashundhara International Convention City in the capital.
PM said, “Chief Minister of West Bengal has expressed interest to provide 1000 MW electricity to Bangladesh. We will inaugurate the import of 500 MW this month while discussion is going on for importing 500MW more.”
“Talks with Nepal and Bhutan about importing hydroelectricity have made significant progress. We already have signed an MOU with Nepal,” the pm added.
State minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resource Nasrul Hamid and Energy Adviser to the PM Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury were present during the occasion among others.
