Committed to hold free, fair and credible polls: CEC Huda

CEC KM Nurul HudaThe Election Commission is committed to hold a free, fair and credible national election, says Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
His remarks came on Wednesday at the two-day conference of Forum of Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA), being held at Radisson Hotel in the capital.
Addressing the inaugurating ceremony, he said, “Sharing experiences in this conference will help us in holding an inclusive election.”
On electronic voting machines (EVMs), Huda said, “We have proposed an amendment to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), so that EVMs can be used in the national polls, if necessary.
“Feedback from trials in the local government elections was satisfactory,” he said.
CEC hoped that the eight participating countries will be able to exchange experience during the course of the conference.
Representatives from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives are taking part in the conference.
Chairman of FEMBoSA and Afghanistan Election Commission chief Abdul Badi presided over the inaugural ceremony before handing over the charge to CEC Huda as the new president.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated the two-day-conference.
