Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) could only be put in place in the upcoming general election if the relevant law enactment, attaining necessary capabilities and stakeholder’s support are done, says the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.
“If the government and the parliament intend to do so, EVM could be used. We will use it partially in a random process. No prior confirmation will be published in which places it would be installed.”
The CEC came up with the remarks while inaugurating a two-day training session in capital’s Agargaon at Election Training Institute (ETI) on Monday.
Admitting the growing concern regarding the EVM, CEC said, “People and political leaders are yet to make known to the automated system; they will gradually be acquainted to it.”
Terming EVM as cost effective system, Mr Huda stressed that conventional polling system increases the expenditure and raises huge concerns of relative materials.
EVM will reduce the miscellaneous costs of holding a smooth election, he added.
