Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukder has boycotted an EC meeting convened to discuss amendment of Representation of the People Order (RPO) to pave the way for using electronic voting machine (EVM).
He has also given a note of dissent on a proposal to amend the RPO.
The meeting started at 11am Thursday when Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, other commissioners including Talukder and EC Secretary Helal Uddin attended.
Half an hour later, Mahbub left the meeting, eye witnesses said.
Sources at Talukder’s office said, he submitted a written note of dissent on the proposal to incorporate EVM provision in the RPO.
One of his personal officers later submitted the note of dissent to Receive and Distribution section of the Election Commission.
An EC meeting was held to discuss the amendment on Aug 26, but it was put off for four days as CEC went to Sri Lanka on a tour on that day.
When contacted, Talukder did not talk with the media. At present he is staying at his office.
