Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, a renowned writer and Professor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), who sustained a knife attack on the university campus, was admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for better treatment.
Director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt. Colonel Rashidul Hasan said that Prof Zafar Iqbal was admitted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka at 12 midnight at the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, Brigadier General Dr AK Mahbubul Haque, Director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, told reporters that Dr Zafar Iqbal was taken by an air ambulance at about 9.50pm to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) from Sylhet.
He said the eminent scientist, however, was out of danger.SUST student Asif Ajhar, who witnessed the incident, said Zafar Iqbal came under attack just he was returning to ICT Bhaban of the campus after attending an academic festival of his Electronics and Electrical Engineering (EEE) department in the university's central auditorium.
Zafar Iqbal is the head of the EEE department and a professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department at the SUST.
Foyzur Rahman Faizul, the attacker, was caught by the SUST students at the scene, was handed over to the police.
