Rohingya CrisisThe European Commission yesterday (March 2) reiterated full support to Bangladesh to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
This was conveyed to Bangladesh Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali when he met with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President (HRVP) Federica Mogherini in Brussels, according to a message received here.
During the meeting, Mogherini expressed deep admiration and appreciation for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh for generosity, patience, solidarity and ‘humanity’ in dealing with Rohingya crisis.
She further reassured that EU will remain with Bangladesh on this matter.
Mahmood Ali briefed Mogherini on bilateral engagements and arrangements made so far for a safe, dignified and sustainable return of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.
He emphasized on the need for sustained international pressure on Myanmar authorities, particularly on the military, to create a conducive environment for the safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas to their home in Myanmar.
Besides, the Foreign Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Didier Reynders.
Didier Reynders highly appreciated Bangladesh's generous role in hosting a large number of displaced Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
He further expressed concern about continued human rights violation of Rohingya community in Myanmar.
He also emphasized on enhanced collaboration between Business communities of the two countries and in that context underscored the need for regular exchange of Business Delegation.
Mahmood Ali agreed to the proposed wider business engagements between the two countries and invited Belgian investments in sectors like pharmaceuticals, energy, dredging and infrastructure.
