Renowned singer Shahnaz Rahmatullah has passed away.
She breathed her last around 11:30pm Saturday (Mar 23) in her Baridhara residence, people close to the singer and family told Bangla Tribune.
Lyricist and journalist Kabir Bakul said, “Around 11:00pm on Saturday night Shahnaz Rahmatullah was feeling unwell. But, she expired before she could have been shifted to a hospital.”
“Her husband was by her side when she took her last breath,” added Bakul.
A number of artists rushed to Shahnaz Rahmahtullah’s residence at the news of her demise. Shafiq Tuhin, who was among them, told Bangla Tribune that the family has decided to put her to eternal rest at the Army Graveyard following the funeral prayer after Zuhr prayer on Sunday (Mar 24).
Shahnaz Rahmatullah was born on Jan 2, 1952. Her musical career kicked off as a radio artist and a playback singer in the movies when she was only 11. Trained by Ghazal legend Mehdi Hassan, Shahnaz went on to chart an illustrious career, and during the span of over five decades in the industry she has been honoured with numerous accolades including the prestigious Ekushey Padak.
