Indian music maestro Hariharan Anantha Subramani, has recorded a song penned by Bangladeshi Lyricist Zulfiqer Russell. Tune and Music for the track titled ‘Piya Bawari’ was done by acclaimed music director of Kolkata Tunai Debasish Ganguly.

The track, written in Hindi for the Padma Shri award winning musician was recorded on Aug 27 at a studio in Mumbai.

Explaining the reason of composing a Hindi song, Popular Bengali Lyricist Zulfiqer said, “It takes a lot of pondering to even dream that I will write a song for Hariharan. It requires deliberate self preparation before meeting such a personality! And the dream for me is now a reality! I wanted to do a Bangla song because I always compose in Bangla. I understand Hindi; I can speak more or less but writing it was near impossible a task for me! About 2/3 years ago, I shared the desire with my friend and music composer Tunai Debasish Ganguly, and he was excited! He told me, “We will do a song for Hariji and it should be in Hindi because it will then be a song for millions.” Tunai made some other arguments that appeared logical to me. That’s why the song is composed in Hindi.”
Speaking about the new song Hariharan told Bangla Tribune, “It’s a wonderful song— beautiful composition. Tunai’s music was just as fabulous as Zulfiqer wrote it. It’s a melodious song and both of them did great work.”
“I immensely enjoyed singing it,” he added.
Zulfiqer Russell said, “The track was scheduled to be recorded on Aug 28, but he listened to the song again after going to his studio at Mumbai and told the recordist that he will record the song right then. We were at Chennai at the time for another song. Hariji took it upon himself to record the track. He corrected a couple of grammatical mistakes in my composition and then sent the recorded song to us for our opinion. We were simply amazed.”
‘Piya Bawari’ is likely to be released on December, Zulfiqer said.
