Police gun barrelAn alleged drug peddler has been killed in Naogaon’s Manda Upazila in what Detective Branch (DB) of police described as shootout.

The incident took place at the Bharson Union Parishad of the upazila around 4am on Tuesday (Feb 11), said police.

The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Aurangzeb Zebu, who was accused in 10 drug cases.

Three police officials were also injured in the incident.

They were taken to Manda Upazila health Complex at first and then transferred to Naogaon Sadar Hospital for further treatment, said Additional Superintendent of Naogaon police Rashedul Haque.

He said: "On a tip-off, a DB police team conducted a drive in the area taking Zebu along with them. As law enforcement arrived at the spot, the gang of drug peddlers opened fire at them forcing police to strike back in self-defence, and triggering a shootout. Zebu was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.”

Manda police OC Mozaffar Hossain said: "Zebu's body has been brought to the police station."
