Bangladesh sheltered the Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds but that doesn’t mean they are permanent refugees, said senior Cabinet member Obaidul Quader.
“We sheltered them on humanitarian grounds but now we ourselves are in humanitarian crisis,” he said on Tuesday (Jan 21).
Quader was speaking at an event organised by the ruling Awami League’s district unit at Cox’s Bazar.
He said that only the international community can relieve the country of the burden and called on their co-operation.
Saying that Myanmar is resorting to many tricks regarding the Rohingyas, the road transport and bridges minister said, “They are trying to escape by putting all the blame on Bangladesh.”
He said that the prime minister made it clear that graft, extortion and tender manipulation will not be tolerated by conducting cleansing drives within the party.
Quader, who serves as the ruling party general secretary called on the activists to remain humble no matter what power they hold.
