102 drug peddlers surrendered to police in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar On Feb 16, 2019. FILE PHOTOPolice in Cox’s Bazar have brought charges against as many as 101 drug peddlers, who surrendered to the law enforcement agencies last year, in two cases filed under the narcotics and the arms acts.
The charge-sheet was submitted to the court of Cox’s Bazar Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah on Monday (Jan 20), said court police OC Pradip Kumar Das.
Police, however, left the name of an accused in the charge-sheet as he died in jail, he added.
On Feb 16 last year, a total of 102 drug peddlers surrendered with 350,000 yaba tablets and 30 guns in front of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf Upazila.
According to police, all but one hail from Tekanf while 35 were yaba godfathers and four were the brothers of former Awami League lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi.
Police later filed two separate cases under the Narcotics Control Act and the Arms Act.
