50 gold bars seized from Biman flight

Seized 50 gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday (Jan 19).

Customs officials at the Chattogram airport have seized 50 gold bars weighing 6.84 kg from a Dubai-return flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The gold were found wrapped in polythene in the boarding bridge of the Biman’s flight BG-148 after it landed on Shah Amanat International Airport around 9am on Sunday (Jan 19).
Deputy Commissioner of Airport Customs House Riyadul Haque said, “Acting on a tip-off, we searched passengers near the boarding bridge of the Biman’s flight BG-148. The smugglers left the gold bars beside the aircraft exit after sighting customs officials.
“We are yet to identify, who have brought the bars,” he added.
The gold is worth nearly Tk 36 million, according to customs officials.
