Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda addressing media after a meeting with the law enforcement agencies in Chattogram on Wednesday (Jan 8).Calling the candidates to not worry over the use of electronic voting machines (EVM) in Chattogram-8 by-polls, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nurul Huda has said there will be no opportunity to rig votes and snatch ballots once the EVM is launched.
"No scope for vote fraud... There will be no second chance to cast a ballot in the EVMs," he told the media after a meeting with the law enforcement agencies in the port city on Wednesday (Jan 8).
Ruling out the allegation on presiding officers control ballot casting through EVMs, Huda said the complaint resembles the rumour of sighting a face on the moon.
“The allegation has no grounds,” he insisted.
Citing a congenial polls environment appears in Chattogram-8 constituency, Huda said, “No conflict among candidates, and voters' response are positive, too.
“We have been assured that the polls will be fair and competitive,” he added.
On Dec 1 last year, the Election Commission announced the schedule for Chattogram-8 by-polls after the seat fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal lawmaker Mayeen Uddin Khan Badal on Nov 7.
