Six injured in Keraniganj chemical warehouse fire

At least six people have been injured in a fire which broke out at a chemical warehouse in Dhaka’s Keraniganj.
The fire erupted around 1pm on Sunday (Jan 5) at the warehouse which is situated Purbabondo Dakpara area in Jinjira.
It took two fire fighting units to tame the flames, said fire service officials.
The identities of the victims could not be known immediately.
Dhaka Fire Service and Civil Defence Deputy Assistant Director Md Mostafa Mohshin said, “The incident spot was a warehouse for Sodium thiosulfate, Manganese sulfate monohydrate and Magnesium chloride. The fire might trigger from a blast of Sodium thiosulfate.”
He said that no casualties have been reported in the incident, before adding, “The place was not authorized for a chemical warehouse.”
Locals said that six people became affected in the incident as they were present near places of the incident.
“A five-member probe body has been opened over the incident,” said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Amit Debnath.
The owner of the chemical warehouse, Maruf Hossain, has been on the run soon after the incident.
