Two members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have sustained gunshot wounds during a narcotics raid at a camp for Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident was reported from the Noyapara camp at the southeastern district’s Teknaf upazila on Monday (Dec 30).
“Rohingya perpetrators opened fire at the RAB troop while they were at the scene in the afternoon,” said Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Shah Alam of Teknaf-based RAB-15.
Injured RAB personnel Corporal Shahab Uddin and Sepoy Imran have been sent to Combined Military Hospital, he added.
A Rohingya leader of the camp said, the shooting in broad daylight has triggered panic among residents.
According to local sources, the elite force conducted the raid on a tip-off about consignments of smuggled yaba tablets at the camp.
Sensing the presence of the force, the unidentified people opened fire on them before managed to escape into the hills.
