A senior Bangladesh Bank official and his two daughters have died after their car was crushed by a truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Saturday (Dec 28).
A joint director of the central bank, Saifuzzaman Mintu, 50, was travelling with his wife Konika Akter, 40, son Montu, 10 and daughters -- Ashra Anam Khan, 13, and Tasmin Zaman Khan, 11 -- to Dhaka from the port city.
Their car collided with a truck on the highway at Chattogram's Fauzdarhat around 8 am, when the girls died on the scene, said officials.
"Saifuzzaman was travelling to Dhaka with his family. As soon as their car reached near the Fouzdarhat traffic box, it collided head-on with a truck. His daughters died on the scene while Saifuzzaman, his wife and son were rushed to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH)," Station Officer Iftekhar Uddin of the local Agrabad Fire Service told Bangla Tribune.
Saifuzzaman succumbed to his injuries at the CMCH around 10:30 am while his wife and son are being treated at the neurosurgery department, said Alauddin Talukder, a sub-inspector of the police outpost at the hospital.
The family has been living in the capital’s Mirpur area.
