An alleged robber has been killed in Noakhali in what the police described as shootout.
The incident was reported around 1am on Friday (Dec 27) from Abdullapur village in the district’s Sonaimuri Upazila, said police.
The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Mokhlesur Rahman.
Sonaimuri police OC Abdus Samad said: "A gang of robbers suddenly opened fire on a patrol team of police around 1am, forcing them to fire back in self-defence.
"After the robbers fled the scene, Mokhlesur's bullet-wounded body was recovered from the spot," said OC Samad.
“The body was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for autopsy,” he said.
Mokhlesur had 11 cases filed against him with different police stations, the OC said.
Two police personnel -- constables Shahed and Habibur Rahman -- were injured in the incident, he claimed.
Police seized a firearm, three rounds of ammunition, one empty bullet shells and three sharp weapons from the spot.
