Ctg by-polls: JP, Gano Forum candidates’ nomination scrapped

The 11th Parliamentary Election held on Dec 30, 2018. FILE PHOTOThe Election Commission has scrapped the nominations of Jatiya Party candidate Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu and Gano Forum’s Uttam Kumar Chowdhury for the Chattogram-8 by-polls scheduled for Jan 13.
Chowdhury’s nomination was scrapped because he didn’t fill-up the form properly, he added.
Chattogram Regional Election Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman rejected the nominations on Sunday (Dec 15).
“Jatiya Party candidate Ziauddin Bablu was a loan guarantor for someone. As per the rules, the loans are supposed to paid off a week before submitting nomination papers but he cleared it the day before submission,” Hasanuzzaman told Bangla Tribune.
He said that if they want they can appeal to the Election Commission within the next three days.
Meanwhile, the nominations of Awami League’s Moslem Uddin Ahmed, BNP’s Abu Sufian, Bangladesh National Front’s Abul Kalam Azad, Islamic Front’s Faridul Alam, NAP’s Bapon Dasgupta and independent candidate Emdadul Hoque.
The Chattogram-8 constituency fell vacant after the death of Awami League lawmaker Moin Uddin Khan Badal on Nov 7.
