To provide security to Rohingyas, the army has begun constructing barbed wires around Rohingya camps in Ukhia-Teknaf.
On Sunday (Dec 8), members of the armed forces were seen placing pillars for barbed wires around the camps. Reportedly, the camp residents are happy.
One resident says: “Once barbed wire is placed, security will be reinforced and the intrusion of unscrupulous people will stop.”
Another resident said that some people involved in unethical trade are unhappy because once the barbed wire is placed, they will not be able to carry out their operations with impunity.
A local resident of Ukhia adds: “Incidents of killings, abduction, trafficking, drugs were rising at the camps; once the barbed wire is placed, crime in all forms will fall.”
At present, more than 1.1 million Rohingyas are living in around 34 camps in Cox’s Bazar.
