A suspected drug peddler has been killed in Rajshahi in what RAB describe as a shootout.
The incident was reported on Saturday from the city’s Kasiadanga Thana area, said RAB 5 deputy commander Major AM Ashraful Islam.
“A RAB team was on a visit in city’s Nabaganga area in the wee hours on Sunday when a torch light ray was noticed. When RAB members were approaching the spot, some miscreants opened fired to the patrolling team. We fired back in self-defence which triggered the shootout,” said the elite force official.
Later, the RAB team found a bullet ridden body on the incident spot at around 12.45am. The victim was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where doctors declared him dead, added Major Islam.
The victim is yet to be identified.
The body has been kept in RMCH morgue.
One pistol, two bullets, a magazine and 58 bottles of Phensedyl have been seized from the spot.
