An alleged drug peddler has been killed in what the law enforcers described as a shootout in Noakhali.
The incident was reported from the Sadar upazila in the early hours of Thursday (Nov 28).
The deceased has been identified as Ibrahim Khalil Prakash Bhandari Rubel, 32, confirmed Detective Branch of Police OC Kamruzzaman Sikder.
He said that Rubel was arrested with 60 tablets of contraband yaba from rail line area on Wednesday evening.
He added that based on confession from him, a team of Noakhali DB police along with Rubel raided the west Mahduri garden to recover firearms.
“His cohorts opened fire on the police to snatch him away and we fired back,” OC Sikder said before adding that Rubel died in the gunfight and five policemen were injured.
According to law enforcers, there are 16 lawsuits against Rubel and they recovered one LG, one pipe gun, six rounds of ammunition and some sharp weapons from the spot.
