A case has been opened over the collision of two trains in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upaziala that left 16 people dead.
Akhaura Railway Station Master Zakir Hossain filed a case of unnatural death on Tuesday (Nov 12), Akhaura Railway police OC Shyamol Kanti Das told Bangla Tribune.
“The cases need to be filed as per the railway rules,” said Mandabag Railway Senior Station Master Md Khalilur Rahman.
On Tuesday (Nov 12), Chattogram-bound Udayan Express from Sylhet and Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita from Chattogram collided near Mondobhag Railway Station around 3:30 am killing 16 people and injuring over 50.
Nine people, including four women, died on spot, while the rest succumbed to their injuries at hospitals.
Soon after the crash, the local fire service launched a rescue operation while train services in Dhaka-Chattogram and Chattogram-Sylhet routes were suspended following the accident.
The Railways Ministry, Bangladesh Railway and Brahmanbaria district administration have formed separate probe panels to look into the fatal crash.
