‘Robber’ killed in Brahmanbaria ‘shootout’

Photo shows a police gun barrel.An alleged robber has been killed in Brahmanbaria’s Ashuganj Upazila in what the police described as shootout.

The incident took place Chaporbari area in Jatrapur village of the upazila around 2am on Wednesday (Nov 13), said police.

The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Saddam Hossain.

“Police surrounded Chaporbari area at night after being tipped off about the presence of robbers in the area,” said Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of police Rezaul Karim.

“Sensing the presence of law enforcing men, the robbers opened fire on police, forcing them to retaliate. The bullet-ridden body of Saddam was found on the spot at the end of the shootout. Police managed to nab three other robbers from the site,” he said.

“The body has been sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy,” added Rezaul Karim.
