Five killed in Cox’s Bazar landslide

Landslide. File Photo.Five people including four members of a family were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of landslide, in district town and Ramu Upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Hai, 8, Marjia Akhter, 15, Kafia, 10, and Khairunnesa, 6, four children of Jamal Hossain.
Another victim of the incident in Ramu was Morshed Alam, 6.
Additional Superintendent of Police Afrujul Huq Tutul said that landslides, triggered by incessant rainfall from a couple of days killed five people in the district.
The injured have been taken to the Cox’s Bazar state-run hospital, he added.
Abdur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner said, “We are shocked with the ill-fated incident. The families of the dead will get Tk 20,000 aid on behalf of the state.”
Total of 228mm rainfall has been recorded in the district in last 24 hours. Heavy downpour is likely to fall which may occur more landslides and fresh flood, said Assistant Meteorologist of Cox’s Bazar Abdur Rahman.
