Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi speaking to the media at a hotel in Rangpur Metropolitan area on Friday (Nov 8).Onion prices are not likely to go down below Tk 100 per kilogram any time soon, said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi.

He made the remarks while speaking to the media at a hotel in Rangpur Metropolitan area on Friday (Nov 8).

“The prices might go down after the locally produced onion hits the market at the end of this month,” he said before adding that it won’t be possible to reduce prices before that.

The minister said that 50,000 tonne onions are likely to arrive from Egypt and prices might go down slightly then.

He added that it’s pointless to import onions from India at the moment as prices there is around Tk 80 per kilogram.
