The stage arranged for the celebration of 57th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh has caught fire last night.
President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to attend the programme on Sunday as the chief guest.
The incident was reported at 11.45pm on Saturday, said the fire-fighter officials.
Six fire engines have brought the fire under control around 12.45am, said deputy director of Mymensingh Fire Service Shahidur Rahman.
“Electric short circuits may be cause of the fire,” Rahman added.
Saurov Das, a student of the university, said, “The fire was noticed at the stage at around 12am and immediately we informed the local fire-fighter unit.”
