Strong current in Padma River has washed another jetty at Daulatdia end of Manikganj's Paturia-Daulatdia route disrupting ferry services.
The river ate up as many as three jetties out of six with the least one went underwater on Oct 24 while another two jetties and its surrounding area were washed away on Oct 1, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) official Moqbul Hossain told Bangla Tribune.
Disruption in ferry services caused a huge tailback as over 600 vehicles remain stranded on the both side of the river, he added.
Passenger vehicles are given preference to cross the river as half of jetties went underground.
BIWTA (Aricha region) Deputy General Manager Md Zillur Rahman said the short of jetties has caused a crisis of pontoons to load and unload vehicles from the ferries.
Five out of 16 ferries have remained anchored, he added.
If the river erosion continues operating ferries at Daulatdia end will be difficult in the coming days, warned Hossain, a deputy-assistant engineer of BIWTA.
