A court in Bhola has placed five persons, including Biplob Chandra Shuvo on a three-day remand each in two cases lodged over the clash in the southern distrust of Bhola’s Borhanuddin Upazila over Facebook post hurting religious sensitivity.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Sanaul Haque handed the remand order on Thursday (Oct 24) after police produced the accused in the court seeking seven days in remand, said court Inspector Rathindra Nath Biswash.
Of the five, Biplob Chandra Shuvo, Sharif Shakil and Imon were arrested in a cased filed under the Digital Act on charge of insulting Prohet Muhammad (PBUH) in social media.
While Arif and Shajib were arrested in another case over the clash from Borhanuddin municipality area on Wednesday (Oct 23), said Bhola SP Sarkar Mohammad Kaisar.
“We are scrutinising the video footages to indentify the perpetrators,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday (Oct 20), a group of people brought out a procession in Borhanuddin Bazar protesting the screenshots from a Facebook account user Biplob Chandra Shuvo “hurting religious sensitivities”
The protest triggered a clash between police and villagers that left four people dead and over a hundred injured.
Biplob, however, filed a general diary alleging his Facebook account was hacked on previous day of the incident.
