Milk Vita, a local company which produces dairy products, has imported 200 buffaloes from India.
These buffaloes have been imported from Haryana, India.
The company received their first consignment of 100 buffaloes on May 9 and second consignment Thursday (Jul 19).
The livestock was imported without tariff through Benapole land port, but took prior permission from Livestock Department in Bangladesh.
According to customs and port sources, Milk Vita has imported these buffaloes and among them 50 are adult and other 50 are calves.
The Siranganj based company floated a tender and Bangladeshi importer Zentix International got the work order.
The imported value of the animals is $ 82,225 which is worth Tk 70 lacs.
Joydeb Kumar Singha, Livestock Officer at Sharsha Upazila, said, “The buffaloes are in good health”.
Zentix International Office Assistant Tariqul Islam said, “The buffaloes will increase milk production and be used in breeding in the farms.
Benapole customs official Harun ur Rashid said, “After primary examinations, 100 baffaloes have been permitted to enter in Bangladesh.”
