A man who locals claim is a thief has been beaten to death by public at Lakshmipur district’s Ramganj upazila.
Thirty-five-year old Nazrul Islam was beaten to death early on Tuesday (Oct 15).
According to Mostafizur Rahman who was severely injured during the incident said that he caught Nazrul Islam and his accomplices while stealing in his house.
He said that Nazrul and his companions started striking him with a knife and the chaos that ensued brought the locals out who started beating Nazrul up.
Later Police took the accused to the upazila health complex where the duty doctor Raushan Jamil declared him dead.
“Nazrul was a marked thief who had been living in Cumilla for some time but started stealing again upon returning,” said local UP Chairman Mijanur Rahman.
Ramganj police OC Md Anwar Hossain said that the body has been to Lakshmipur Hospital for autopsy.
