Rape victim's forced marriage: Pabna administration opens inquiry

PabnaThe Cabinet Division has ordered another inqurry over the allegations of a woman being forcibly married off to one of her rapists by the police in Pabna.
Pabna district administration formed a  probe panel on Thursday (Sept 12) headed by Additional District Magistrate Zahid Newaz, confirmed Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud.
He said that the committee, that will also comprise of Deputy Civil Surgeon AKM Abu Zafar and Additional Superintendent of Police Ibn Mizan, has been ordered to file its findings by Sept 15.
Previously, a three-member police committee headed by Additional Superintendant of Police Md Firoze Ahmed was formed.
After the committee found truth in the allegations, Paban Sadar police OC Obaidul Haque was withdrawn and attached to police lines. Sub-Inspector Ekramul Haque of the same station was suspended.
A mother of three was raped by Rasel Ahmed and a cohort on Aug 29; two days later, on Aug 31 she was taken and locked in an office where, four to five men violated her.
When the woman came back and told her relatives, she was admitted to the Pabna General Hospital on Sept 5 and the victim lodged a complaint at the station.
The police then arrested Rasel and had him married to the woman though the latter has a husband and then, tried to suppress the event. 

Four people have been arrested in the case so far.
