Police have arrested the main suspect in a case filed over the gang rape of a seventh grader with bullet wounds in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila.
The suspect has been identified as Badshah, resident of Khajura village of the municipality town.
Badshah was arrested in Khajura area of the upazila on Wednesday (Aug 21) morning, said Jhenaidah Sadar police station Officer in Charge Mijanur Rahman Khan.
Based on secret information, police raided in Khajura area to arrest the suspect. The suspect wielded a sharp weapon at police in an attempt to escape.
When police fired gun shots in defence, the suspect was shot in the leg.
He was arrested and taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital in police custody.
On the evening of Eid-ul-Azha observed on Aug 12, a seventh grader was picked up from Mathpara in Khajura and gang raped.
The assailants later dumped her at a nearby housing project area.
The victim’s father later filed a case with Sadar police in this connection.
