No need to declare emergency over dengue: GM Quader

Jatiya Party Co-Chairman GM Quader. File PhotoAmid the worst dengue outbreak in the history of Bangladesh, Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman GM Quader has said there is no necessity to declare a state of emergency over the ongoing dengue menace.
“The government has taken adequate measures and we [JP] will stand by them to tackle dengue outbreaks,” said Quader.
The JP chief was speaking at relief distribution programme for the flood-hit people at Rajpur area of the northern district of Lalmonirhat’s Sadar Upazila on Saturday (Aug 3), reports our Lalmonirhat Correspondent.
Calling the government to take action over dengue situations, Quader said, “Awareness-raising activities and clean campaigns should be strengthened in the regard.”
At another relief distributing programme at Pachgachi College in Kurigram’s Sadar Upazila, Quader said the government has utterly failed to tackle dengue, reports our Kurigram Correspondent.
As many as 21,235 people have been infected by and another 14 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease this year, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Friday (Aug 2).
Thirty-eight patients were admitted to hospitals in Rangpur Division.
Quader, who became the party chairman after the death of his brother and former military dictator HM Ershad last month, said: “There’s competition but no conflict in the Jatiya Party.”
