Five children, including two sisters, were killed after a boat capsized in the floodwater in Jamalpur district.
The incident was reported from Kalikapur Nikoli swamp under Sarishabari upazila on Thursday (Jul 25) afternoon, confirmed Sarishabari police OC Majharul Islam.
The deceased are Suborna Akhter, 15, her younger sister Jhuma Akhter, 8, Antara, 12, Rodoshi Akhter, 11, and Jannatul Joya, 10.
“Nine people were in the boat. Five of them died as the boat capsized,” said Sarishabari Tarakandi police investigation centre in-charge Inspector Mohabbat Kabir.
He added that there were four others who were rescued by locals and that the police recovered the bodies from the spot upon being informed.
