A local Awami League leader has been shot dead by miscreants in Satkhira.

The incident occurred around 11 am on Monday (Jul 22).

The deceased is identified as Satkhira Sadar Upazilla's Agardi Union Awami League Vice-President Nazrul Islam, 48.

When Nazrul was returning home on his motorcycle from a nearby market, some criminals opened fire on him. He died on the spot.

Agitated locals blocked the highway in protest of the murder.

Satkhira Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Iltutmish and Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
