Human Rights Commission chief calls fair trial in Ekram killing National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque has termed the killing of Cox’s Bazar Councillor Ekramul Huq ‘extra-judicial’ and demanded a fair trial into it.
“This is not desirable for the country,” he said after visiting Ekram house in Teknaf Sunday afternoon, but he could not meet the family members as they were in Chattogram.
Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf Municipality Councillor Ekramul Huq was killed in a ‘shootout’ with RAB on May 26. Later, the elite force claimed the victim as a drug dealer.
“It is not possible to eradicate drug business by killing people in extra judicious manner. Nobody is above the law,” the chairman said.
It is not legal to kill anybody in the name of anti-drug operations and law enforcing agencies should be careful about it, he added.
“We are shocked to hear the audio clip of councillor Ekramul Huq. We are repeatedly requesting the government not to kill any other innocent people this way,” he said.
