This is a love story of Asad Morol, 40, a land surveyor in Khulna city, and Crystal Kasumi Siur, a 42-year-old German, who met on Facebook and got married on Thursday.
They first met on Facebook two years ago and started communicating soon after. Eventually, regular conversations led them to fall in love.
Crystal reportedly divorced her husband and left her family behind to be with Asad.
On Jun 10, Crystal landed in Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and met Asad for the first time the next day in Khulna.
On Wednesday, Crystal decided to give up Christianity and take up Islam in order to marry Asad on Thursday.
Crystal said: “After I came here I met him for the first time and immediately decided to take up Islam as a religion and get married. We are now happy.”
Asad said: “I am happy to become Crystal’s partner for life.”
Asad’s father, Ibrahim Morol, said: “I am happy for my son. I would have been accepting of whomever he chose to marry.”
Although locals were astonished at Crystal’s decision to come to Bangladesh and marry Asad, they were very impressed by her friendly and warm-hearted demeanour.
Crystal will soon return to Germany to start processing Asad’s visa and they plan to live there together, once his visa is approved.
