Magura Clinic Owners’ Association has given a memorandum to the district administration on Sunday (Jun 16), asking for legal action against Masudul Huq, who reportedly is an HSC graduate but introduces himself as an MBBS doctor and practices medicine and carries out surgery.
It’s found that Masud also claims he is a PGT, CDD surgeon. Reportedly, Masud lived in Russia for 15 years and obtained a diploma; later, after coming back to the country, began medical practice.
In 2005, he is known to have botched up a trachea operation and reportedly, used polythene to tie a wound inflicted by him.
When the patient’s condition deteriorated, he was moved to DMCH where the polythene was recovered. After the incident was carried by the media, he became known as Polythene Masud.
The local administration caught him and sent him to jail. After getting release on bail, he registered himself as a doctor in BMDS and joined the Magura Diabetic Hospital as a doctor.
He still works there and has a ten-storied building, clinic, diagnostic centre and a Chinese restaurant.
Reportedly, he carries out many surgeries and reportedly several patients have become victims of his malpractice.
However, he is getting impunity due to money and muscle power.
The clinic owners claim that their repeated letters to the district civil surgeon and administration yielded no result.
The deception of Masudul Huq has been exposed through a TV investigative report aired on Jun 13.
During an interview with the TV reporter, Maud admitted not having an MBBS degree. He also made a brazen comment saying ‘everything is possible in Bangladesh.’
Magura district administrator, Ali Akbor, said: “A three-member investigation committee has been formed and the civil surgeon has also been asked to investigate.”
Regarding the accusations, Masud Huq, says: “I am engaged in medical profession with registration from BMDS; if necessary, I will present all information through a press conference."
