Two shot dead in Mymensingh drug raids

At least two people have been killed in what police describe ‘shootout’ during an anti-narcotics raids in Mymensingh.
The victims have been identified as Ali Hossain, 38, and Swapan Mia, 32, who the police say were involved in drug dealing.
Both of them were named in a series of others cases involving murder and other crimes, said Additional Superintendent of Police SA Newazi.
More than 150 people have died in alleged gun battles since the law enforcers’ crackdown on drugs last month.
SA Newazi told Bangla Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, district’s police of Detective Branch and Tarakanda police conducted a raid in near the Tarakanda-Phulpur highway area. Sensing the presence of the police, the drug peddlers open fired and we retaliated when Ali Hossain shot. He was recovered from the spot and sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.”
“As many as 200 yaba tablets and three bullet casings were seized from the spot”, he added.
“Trishal police, acting on a tip-off, operated a raid near Kazi Nazrul Islam University where police faced open fire from drug dealers. Police retaliated when Swapan Mia shot. He was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. 200 yaba tablets, 100 gram of heroine and 3 bullet casings were seized from the spot, said Newazi.
The bodies are kept in the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
