An Awami leader has alleged that police barred him in holding an eid greeting programme in Manikganj.
Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul, former Youth and Sports Affairs Secretary of the central Awami League, said he arranged the programme on Monday when police obstructed the event.
“We started the program from Singair Upazila’s Dhalla Shaheed Rafiq bridge when police foiled it making an obstruction at 10am”, Tutul said.
“We took permission from local police to have a mass contact in a municipality and eleven other Unions of Singair Upazila. However, police led by SI Anwar Hossain make obstruction at Kashempur area”, he added.
When asked over the matter, SI Hossain said, “We have instructions from the highups.”
When contacted with OC Khandakar Imam Hossain of Singair Police Station over the phone, he did not pick up the call.
In this context, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rifat Rahman Shamim said that there is nothing to obstruct the program for police.
